Choosing a brown desk set

Brown here is a family of shades, so start with the finish. The Luna, Vega, Star, Venus, Galaxy, Elegance, Cloud, Pulsar and Prestige families each have a brown set, each sold complete, so your brown office desk accessories match. The Chester and Vesta sets, the 17-Piece Executive Desk Set and the 5-Piece Genuine Leather Desk Set do not come in brown; find them under black desk sets.

Printed pattern and wood veneer

The brown Pulsar is faux leather with a marble-look pattern printed on it; it is not stone. The Prestige 14 combines wood veneer, a thin layer of real wood on the surface, with faux leather components, and it is not solid wood. The other families are faux leather. Sizes and pieces

For a small desk, look at the Luna 4, 5, 8 and 9 and the Vega 4 and 9, the compact desk sets of four to nine pieces; the Luna 8 and 9 include a nameplate. Ten pieces or more makes a brown executive desk set, whatever the pad size; executive desk sets shows every color. For a brown desk organizer set that takes papers as well as pens, choose one with a document tray: the Luna 10, Vega 14, Star 11 and 14, Galaxy, Elegance, Cloud, Pulsar and Prestige sets have one. The Star 14, Elegance and Prestige sets add a clock (clock batteries are not included), and the Venus and Galaxy 13 and 14 and the Elegance 12 add desk flags.

Gold or silver plate with brown

The table shows which brown sets include a personalized nameplate: most do. Your name and an optional title are printed on a metal plate, not engraved, and you pick gold or silver. Brown on a wood desk

The same guide says brown feels warm and traditional and pairs naturally with wood, and it lists brown as a safe choice on dark and medium wood desks. On dark wood it lists burgundy as a safe choice too; the burgundy desk sets are a deep wine red. One caution: when the desk and the floor are both wood in different tones, a third brown can look muddled, and black or green desk sets usually sit more comfortably between them.

Tan and dark brown

Tan is a lighter brown: choose it with the color selector on the Vega 14, Venus, Galaxy and Cloud pages listed here. Dark brown is a Pulsar color, a near-black brown marble-look print with tan-gold and white veining; select it on the Pulsar page.
