Choosing a gray desk set

Gray is a color name here, not a single shade. The Luna, Vega, Star, Elegance, Cloud and Pulsar families each have a gray set, and all of them are faux leather desk sets: gray office desk accessories in a man-made material with a leather-look surface, not genuine leather.

Which gray is which

The finish wording comes from each set's own product page.

For a gray without a blue tint, mottling or a printed pattern, open Luna or Elegance first. For blue itself, see the blue desk sets, most of them royal blue.

The Pulsar in Gray is a marble-look print

The Pulsar 10-Piece Desk Set in Gray carries the color name Gray, but its product page describes a black marble-look print with white and gray veining. The pattern is printed on faux leather; it is not stone. The black Pulsar is a plain finish.

Compact or executive, and which desk pad

The compact desk sets in gray are all Luna, on the 13.4 × 18.9 in (34 × 48 cm) desk pad: the Luna 4 (desk pad, pen cup, memo holder, coaster), the Luna 5 with a business card holder, and the Luna 8 and Luna 9, which add a personalized nameplate and two ballpoint pens. The Luna 9 also has a phone stand.

A gray executive desk set has ten pieces or more. The Luna 10 (single or two-tier document tray), the Cloud 10 and the Vega 14 keep the same pad as the compact sets; the Star, Elegance and Pulsar sets use the larger 15.0 × 22.8 in (38 × 58 cm) pad. All of these except the Star 10 include a document tray. Every Star set has a picture frame and a calendar holder; the Star 14 adds a desk clock. Elegance has a clock built into the pen cup, and the Elegance 12 adds a desk flag: you type which flag you would like. Clock batteries, paper and calendar sheets are not included.

Nameplate and plate color

Most gray sets are desk sets with a personalized nameplate; the Luna 4, the Luna 5 and the Cloud 10 are not. The plate is metal, in gold or silver, and your name and optional title are printed on it, not engraved. Our color guide pairs gray with silver, which keeps the color cool; gold warms it. Desks and rooms that suit gray

Our guide on how to choose a desk set color says gray suits modern rooms with white, gray or metal furniture, and it lists gray as a safe choice on light wood, white, black, gray, metal and glass desks. It also calls gray a middle ground if you want a lighter look but worry that pale colors make everyday marks easier to see. For a brighter desk, compare the white desk sets; for a more formal one, the black desk sets.

Lining and care
