Gifts for real estate agents usually come from family when a license arrives, from a broker welcoming a new agent, or from a client after a good sale. The job itself points to what is useful: an agent hands out cards all day, lives on the phone and meets clients at more than one desk. This guide matches desk gifts to that way of working.

Where an agent's desk actually is

  • A brokerage desk. Often a shared or assigned desk in an open office, sometimes a private one for an established agent or a broker.
  • A desk at home. Where most of the paperwork and calls happen.
  • A table at an open house. A temporary desk with a sign-in sheet, cards and a pen.

A gift that works at all three is small and carries the agent's name. That is why the two pieces below come first, ahead of a full set.

The two pieces that do the most work

A business card holder

Cards are an agent's main handout, and a holder keeps a clean stack within a client's reach on a desk or a sign-in table. Most of our models have a Business Card Holder piece that can be ordered singly through Build Your Desk Set. On the Star model the piece is a business card holder with a paperclip compartment. What to look for and where to put one is in our business card holder guide.

A nameplate

Clients meet many people during a sale, and a name on the desk helps them remember which one is theirs. A personalized desk name plate does not need a set around it; it can be ordered alone. Vesta's nameplate pieces also hold cards: each has a business card slot on the back and one or two ballpoint pens. Vesta is wood and faux leather and comes in black; the tool lists both pieces when you open it on Vesta.

Nameplate wording for agents and brokers

Copy the title from the agent's business card: brokerages often have a house style, and titles such as agent, associate and broker are not interchangeable. The plate allows 32 characters for the name and 36 for the title line.

  • "Sofia Marino" with "Broker Associate"
  • "Licensed Real Estate Agent" as a title line
  • "Managing Broker" as a title line

Two practical limits. The plate prints letters, numbers, spaces and a few punctuation marks, so a trademark or registration symbol that appears after a title on a business card cannot be printed. If the title on the card is a membership mark, ask the agent how they want it shown, or use a plain title such as Real Estate Agent. The second line is a single line of up to 36 characters, so a title and a brokerage name rarely both fit; if the agent changes brokerages, a plate with the name and a personal title still holds. Further formats, such as team and department lines, are in what to put on a desk nameplate.

Gift ideas by occasion

Gift ideas for real estate agents by occasion
Occasion Who usually gives What fits
Getting the license Family, a partner, a mentor A nameplate with the name alone until the license is issued, or a card holder for the first box of cards
Joining a brokerage The broker or the team A compact set in a neutral color
A first sale or a milestone year The team, a mentor A set with a nameplate
Opening a brokerage Family, colleagues, business neighbors An executive set for the broker's own office

For the last row, our guide to new office gifts covers what suits an office that is just opening.

Desk sets for a brokerage desk

Most agents' desks are not large, and much of the day is spent away from them. A compact set keeps the desk ready for the times a client does sit down.

  • The Luna 9-Piece Desk Set with Nameplate ($175) includes a business card holder, a phone stand, a nameplate base with two pens, a memo holder, a pen cup, a coaster and a desk pad.
  • The Luna 5-Piece Desk Set ($125) is the smaller version without a nameplate: desk pad, pen cup, memo holder, business card holder and coaster.

For a broker's private office, where contracts are reviewed and signed, an executive set with a document tray makes more sense. The Star 11-Piece Desk Set with Two-Tier Tray ($300) has a two-tier document tray, a calendar holder, a picture frame and a business card holder with a paperclip compartment on the larger desk pad. The Vega 14-Piece Desk Set with Nameplate ($275) has a two-tier tray, a tissue holder and three coasters for clients. Both are in desk sets with a nameplate.

A thank-you from a client

Agents are more used to giving closing gifts than receiving them, so a gift from a client is noticed. Keep it small: a single piece, or a nameplate if you know the exact name and title on their card. If you are unsure whether a gift is welcome, a short note asking the agent is not rude. A written recommendation they can show future clients is worth as much as any object, and the two go well together.

Before you order

  1. Take the name and title from the business card, not from a listing site.
  2. Choose a color that suits the brokerage. If the office has a strong brand color, a neutral set will sit beside it more easily than a near match.
  3. Read the text once more in your bag before checkout. After ordering, we can change nameplate text until the order has shipped; after that it cannot be changed.

Common questions

Can a single card holder be ordered without a set?

Yes. Pieces are sold singly through Build Your Desk Set, there is no minimum, and each piece shows its own price in the tool.

Is a desk set useful for an agent who is rarely in the office?

A full set less so. A nameplate and a card holder go wherever the agent is working that day.

Can the plate show a team name?

Yes, on the second line, within 36 characters. Use the team name as it appears on the agent's own cards.
