Luxury Desk Set
Desk Pads and Desk Blotters
You can order a desk pad on its own here: every model in Build Your Desk Set has a Desk Pad piece, and it goes into your cart without the rest of the set. The pads come in two sizes; most are faux leather with a leather-look surface, and one model is genuine leather. Some shoppers know this piece as a desk blotter or a desk mat.
Desk pad, desk blotter or desk mat
Shops use the three names loosely. Ours is called Desk Pad on every model: a writing surface made to match the other pieces of its model, and the kind of pad that is often sold as a desk blotter. It holds no blotting paper, and it is not the soft, cloth-topped kind of desk mat that sits under a keyboard and mouse. The Journal article desk pad vs desk mat vs desk blotter explains where each term comes from and which type suits which kind of work.
Two desk pad sizes
Each model has one pad size. In both sizes the first number is the depth, front to back, and the second is the width.
| Size | Models | A good fit for |
|---|---|---|
| 13.4 × 18.9 in (34 × 48 cm) | Luna, Vega, Cloud, Vesta, Galaxy, Venus | Laptop work and handwriting; desks under 39 in wide |
| 15.0 × 22.8 in (38 × 58 cm) | Star, Prestige, Elegance, Pulsar, Chester, Genesis | A keyboard with a mouse, or a laptop next to a notebook; desks 55 in or wider |
The larger pad adds about 3.9 in (10 cm) of width and 1.6 in (4 cm) of depth. On a desk between 39 and 55 in wide, either size works: take the smaller pad if you want trays beside it, the larger one if it has to carry a keyboard and mouse. Check the depth as well, measuring from the front of the desk to the monitor stand. The desk pad size guide walks through the measuring.
The tool has no size option. Custom sizes can be requested for corporate and larger orders through the contact page.
Faux leather and genuine leather desk pads
If you searched for a leather-look desk pad or desk mat, most models qualify. Luna, Vega, Star, Cloud, Elegance, Galaxy, Pulsar, Venus and Chester are faux leather: a man-made material with a leather-look surface. It is not genuine leather. Our genuine leather vs faux leather guide shows how to check which one a listing means.
For a genuine leather desk pad, choose Genesis, our genuine leather model. Its pad is the larger size, and you can open the tool on Genesis to order it.
Prestige and Vesta combine materials. Prestige is listed as wood veneer with faux leather components; veneer is a thin layer of real wood, not solid wood. Vesta is listed as wood and faux leather. Both lines describe the model as a whole. If you need to know what the writing surface of either pad is, contact us before you order.
Finishes vary by family and can differ from one color to another. The materials and care page defines each material term.
Colors by model
One color applies to every piece in a set, so the pad and anything you order with it share a color.
- Luna, Vega, Star, Elegance, Galaxy, Venus, Chester and Genesis come in the full color range: black, brown, dark brown, tan, beige, cream, white, gray, navy, blue, turquoise, green, burgundy, red, rose black, orange and pink.
- Cloud: black, beige, brown, burgundy, gray, green, navy and tan.
- Prestige: black, brown, burgundy and rose black.
- Pulsar: black in a plain finish; gray, brown and dark brown in a marble-look pattern printed on faux leather, not stone.
- Vesta: black.
On several models that is a wider choice than the ready-made sets of the same family come in.
How to order a desk pad on its own
- Choose a model. The model decides the pad size, the material and the colors on offer.
- Choose your pieces. Set the quantity of Desk Pad to one. Nothing is preselected and there is no minimum, so a single pad is a complete order. Each piece shows its own price in the tool.
- Choose a color. Vesta is black only, so there is nothing to pick.
- Review your set and add it to your cart. The step before the review is for nameplates and desk flags; with a pad alone it has nothing to fill in.
In the second step you can add matching pieces of the same model, for example coasters, a document tray or a personalized nameplate, depending on the model. The Venus model also has a matching Mouse Pad piece. The page on desk accessories by the piece covers the other pieces sold singly, and personalized desk name plates covers the nameplate. Shipping costs are shown at checkout before you pay.
Desk pad care
Clean a faux leather desk pad with a soft cloth: dry for dust, slightly damp for a light mark, and dry the surface afterward. Wipe up spills promptly, never soak the pad, and keep abrasive pads off it. Cut on a separate cutting mat, and put cups and glasses on a coaster. The same basic care applies whatever the material; the desk set care guide has the full advice, including what to avoid.
A pad on its own or a complete desk set
Every ready-made set includes a desk pad together with pieces made to match it. A set is a fixed list of pieces at one set price; in Build Your Desk Set you choose the pieces, and each has its own price. Order the pad alone if you already own accessories you like. If you also need a pen cup, a memo holder or document trays, browse all desk sets, from four-piece compact sets to executive sets of ten pieces or more.
Every compact desk set uses the 13.4 × 18.9 in (34 × 48 cm) pad, and each product page states the pad size, the material and the contents of that set. The ready-made genuine leather sets are the 17-Piece Executive Desk Set and the 5-Piece Genuine Leather Desk Set; the 5-piece set comes with the smaller pad.
Questions before you order
Can I order pads for several desks?
Yes. Raise the quantity of the Desk Pad piece for the same model and color, or choose "Add another set" for a different model or color.
Does a desk blotter come with blotting paper?
No. The pad is a writing surface, and no paper of any kind is included. If you write with a fountain pen, keep blotting sheets at hand.
Can I use a mouse on the pad?
It depends on the mouse. Many optical mice track on a smooth surface; if yours does not, or you prefer a separate surface, the Venus model has a Mouse Pad piece.
